Well I have got the bit firmly between my teeth when it comes to this chutney lark. Not sure exactly how long this fad will last but I am certainly really enjoying it for the time being. A lot more confident in doing it now so decided to make a version of a classic chutney recipe. Red Onion Chutney.

I based this loosely on my method of cooking onion gravy, something I really must blog at some point, and tried to take what I had learned from the last couple of chutneys too.

I see myself as being a pretty impressionistic cook, like Captain Barbossa on the Pirate Code I see recipes as “more what you’d call “guidelines” than actual rules”. So I like to experiment a bit. Now after making two chutneys that involved sticking to others recipes I really wanted to fly by the seat of my pants a little and make one up.

I like to follow a number of food blogs, most of which are far more accomplished than the food stuff in these pages. I recently found a particularly good one called Frugal Feeding. One particular recipe really caught my eye, for Mango Chutney with a hint of kick. I saw this and felt compelled to try it ASAP and I was not disappointed. It is great and easy enough to do and in line with the MO for his blog cheap in all! I do suggest folks try that one as well.
